PIROL is an SEE, designed for object-oriented software development, which itself consequently employs the object-oriented paradigm. PIROL integrates the task of software development with respect to the categories setup by the ECMA reference model. PIROL's architecture covers aspects of CSCW like distribution and notiication. The central concept of PIROL is the idea of diierent views on common information. Views can be conngurations, aggregated documents or presentation modes. All these views can be editable and are based upon a ne grained meta model. The meta model consists of a product{ and a process{oriented part. The latter is a basis for close intergration of process support in terms of a generic process model which can be customized, instantiated and nally enacted. The product side of the meta model is connned to the object-oriented paradigm but is open for any concrete method and OOPL. A current prototype of PIROL proves these concepts realizable and gives an impression of its operability. 1 The PIROL Project This paper describes the current development of an SEE. It is based upon the experience of teaching object-oriented software development and guiding student projects in this eld. PIROL is an SEE platform connned to object-oriented software development. Prototypical tools are being developed along with the platform itself demonstrating the vision of an integrated system and testing concepts of support for easy tool development and integration. Both platform and tools pay attention to aspects of computer supported cooperative work (CSCW). The underlying object repository classiies its objects according to an object-oriented meta model which consists of a product{oriented and a process{oriented sub{model. This description focuses on three aspects of PIROL: On all levels of abstraction the object-oriented paradigm is employed and supported. This results in a design in which diierent mechanisms cooperate very smoothly. As a key concept of SEEs integration is considered in diierent contexts. The following clas-siication from the ECMA reference model 2] is used: { data integration { control integration (this include process integration) { presentation integration. Considerations about cooperative work lead us to the concept of diierent perspectives within a project and more technically spoken to certain views onto the repository and its contents. Again diierent aspects are studied like ltering, aggregation and visualization. A major goal of an SEE must be to help establishing and maintaining consistency between documents.
